The food pyramid, the USDA’s MyPlate, or individual books are written by certified nutritionists. Whatever the source, it’s likely that you’ll find at least one of these three basic types of diets in existence.
The Food Pyramid, though it may not seem like it, is not really a diet. It is simply a way to categorize food according to nutrient density, rather than calorie density. In other words, a diet pyramid actually represents a good diet plan but isn’t necessarily strictly speaking a diet. It’s a way to group foods together for nutritional purposes, rather than to say, “Eat only this!”
On the other hand, the USDA’s MyPlate is definitely a diet. It is a food guide, designed to help Americans maintain a healthy weight. The reason it’s on the MyPlate list is that the USDA allows for a certain amount of deviation from the original list, and doesn’t really care how you get there.
Of course, most diets have at least some elements of one of these two systems. The main difference is that most people have to go out of their way to develop and follow diets, rather than get them handed to them like those provided by the USDA.
Diet Must Be Planned According to Lifestyle

As a fit dieter myself, I have spent a lot of time doing research on diets for fitness. And I have found that while the USDA’s MyPlate plan is great for low calorie and low carb diets, it does not work as well for those looking to lose fat or put on muscle mass. So if you’re looking for a more comprehensive, all-around diet, this is not the plan for you.
The ideal diet is one that works for you. And as an athlete, I know how important it is to be prepared to work out on any diet plan. and to be sure I’m eating the right foods to keep my body working at peak efficiency.
